Tivoli: Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este
Two amazing Villa, an Ancient and a Renaissance one to tell about great epochs dreams. Villa Adriana, an incredible archaeological site with 300 acres of grounds. Villa d’Este with its 16th century fountains
In the Roman surroundings, the sweetness of its landscape together with large spaces availability captured great and powerful man imagination and unable them to realize here their dreams. It was here that, art lover and powerful, Emperor Hadrian built his royal palace the so-called Hadrian’s Villa. You’ll see patios and swimming pools, libraries and nymphs, baths, rooms and halls in a breathtaking sequence of spaces and architectures thought not only to rest the body but also to stimulate the mind, meditation and thought. Visiting this important Roman ruins we can see Hadrian’s plan and, once more, be left astonished by so much beauty and majesty. During Renaissance, 13 centuries after, Cardinal Ippolito d’Este chose Tivoli as the location for his country estate. On the hill slope next to the old centre he built a Villa surrounded by one of most beautiful garden of all time. In fact, the park was planned and taken care in every detail to shape nature and amplify its beauty. Fountains of every dimension and water plays surrounded by statues were built. In this Villa, as much as in the other, walking through this beautiful garden in an out-of-time vibe we can only delight to take part to such a wonder.

Everyone in our family, adults and children alike, really enjoyed our two tours with RomeByLocals. Chiara brought the Coliseum and Forum to life for us all, with interesting pictures to show us what each area used to look like. Stephania gave us a great tour of the Vatican, pointing out things we would definitely have missed otherwise. Highly recommend.Veronica R.
